Healthcare workers are a unique and dedicated group, known for their compassion and commitment to serving the needs of others. Utilizing their skills and expertise, they manage complex disease processes while supporting patients and families through what are often the most difficult and stressful times of their lives. They rely on their education and experience to make quick decisions, often in life-or-death situations, while remaining caring and calm in drastic circumstances. They do the work because they care but being in close proximity to human suffering takes its toll. As such, health care workers are at high risk for burnout, moral distress, and compassion fatigue. The Covid-19 pandemic has compounded this risk of psychological distress in already overburdened health care professionals, yet they continue to serve. Among health care professionals, self-care is often an afterthought.
Please join Angela David, BSN, RN, RYT-500 for a special virtual offering, Meditation and Mindfulness for Healthcare Professionals. In this 2 week program, students can expect to utilize basic meditation and breathing techniques to assist with stress management, reduce anxiety, improve mental focus, and develop a greater sense of self-awareness. Participants will learn about the origin and history of meditation as a spiritual practice, as well as the many benefits of meditation from a scientific perspective and how to cultivate a consistent daily practice to care for themselves during these difficult and uncertain times. Each meditation will have a specific focus or theme tailored to the unique needs of healthcare professionals and will be geared toward those who are new to the practice.
**The practices shared in this workshop are not a substitute for mental healthcare. If you are experiencing a level of stress or anxiety that feels unmanageable, please consult your healthcare provider.
